A Time of Instruction

Our Community   Bible Fellowships (CBFs)  are

                                    Outreach Ministries

Kindness In Action (K.I.A.) is a form of servant evangelism that

shares with others God's love in simple, but practical ways outside the

church walls. It is a very effective form of outreach because it provides an

open door for God to move in miraculous ways.  It is quick and friendly.

The vision of K.I.A. is to extend the love of God to the people of the

Tri-State area by expressing kindness to them in a variety of ways.

We believe that the smallest good deed, done in the name of Jesus,

has the power to change the world!  We want to go into our community

and show the love of Christ.

Kindness in Action participants meet at 10 a.m. on the first Saturday

of each month.  Sometimes we work together as one large group.

For some outreaches, you can be part of a team of 4 or 5 people.

At noon we return to share stories of our evangelism efforts and fellowship

together.  We have special outreaches at times throughout the year and

those are communicated through the weekly worship folder.

Adopt and Love a Marshall Student (A.L.M.S.) Ministry

Several years ago, five Marshall students (student leaders of Campus

Crusade for Christ) began attending River Cities Church.  They enjoyed

our church and the number of other students attending quickly grew.

The A.L.M.S. ministry was the brainstorm of one of those original

    five students.

Our purpose for this ministry is to provide a college student with

a “family away from home.”  It is our goal for the family to keep in

touch with their adoptive students throughout the school year so they

feel they have a connection in Huntington.

We provide a dinner for the A.L.M.S. students and their adoptive

families six times during the year (September, October, November,

February, March, and April).  Most of the food is provided by the

A.L.M.S. ministry, but adoptive parents are also asked to bring a

    homemade side dish or dessert.

Students really appreciate the break from their usual fast food

or cafeteria food.  They also enjoy taking home leftovers!

Adoptive parents are encouraged to keep in contact with their

student(s) so they can know how to intelligently pray for them.

Greeting them and catching up during worship services is a good way

to do this, as is giving them a quick call or sending them a card

    or e-mail.

Here’s what a few parents and students have said about the A.L.M.S.

    Ministry:

“It has been good for my son to see that college students can be

     dedicated to the Lord.”

“I have personally received much more than I have given.”

“It is exciting to see the church of tomorrow in action.”

“My students are so much fun to have around.”

“ My A.L.M.S. family was there for me during my freshman year when

     I needed them most.”

Hope - TALKS Mentoring - Want to make a difference in

   the life of child?

Giving of yourself one hour a week during the school year could do just

that! TALKS Mentoring recruits caring adults to share wisdom with children

in the public schools.  With the award-winning content-based curriculum,

the work has already been done for you.  It focuses on leadership

skill development through peer-to-peer and youth to adult interaction.

Students are identified by the schools for participation in the program and

placed in groups of three--usually one student who excels and one whose

academic performance is average but who could do better with support and

one who is "at-risk" academically, behaviorally or both.
